8th Annual Champagne for SANEs

The WVU Council for Gender Equity presents the 8th annual Champagne for SANEs fundraiser.

Enjoy delicious dinner specials and signature cocktails curated just for the event while bidding on auction items and learning about the cause. 
This fundraiser is sponsored by the WVU Council for Gender Equity and benefits the  West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services' Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner's Fund (WVFRIS SANE Fund). These funds are used to train nurses and provide practicum skills workshops for SANEs who conduct sexual assault evidentiary exams for victims of sexual assault in WV. One hundred percent of the profits proceeds WVFRIS SANE funds. 

Signature champagne flutes uniquely curated just for the event will be on sale at Table 9 during the event. These flutes sold out last year, so be sure to purchase yours during the event. A limited number of signature flutes will be offered onsite.
Raffle items will also be available for bidding during the event at Table 9.

2023 Family Field Day 

The Council for Gender Equity (CGE) is sponsoring the second annual Family Field Day on Sunday, April 16 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at the WVU Rec Center fields.  

This event is for families of WVU staff, faculty, and students, and will also be open to community members. Families will come and enjoy different activities sponsored by various campus organizations to learn about health and wellness (and to have fun!) After we have all experienced such a mentally challenging couple of years, our goal is to provide a social, fun, and healthy afternoon for families. We are requesting proposals for student organizations, local organizations, and wellness-related businesses to attend and either host an activity station or set up a table to share information. The event will be targeted to entire families, including children of all ages.

The Skriker: A Panel Discussion

The WVU School of the Theatre & Dance DEI Committee and the WVU Council for Gender Equity Outreach Committee are co-hosting a panel discussion in conjunction with the production of Caryl Churchill’s “The Skriker.” Panelists include Dr. Brianne Depcrymski (Carruth Center), El Didden (WVU School of Medicine, WVU Rainbow Coats), and Taylor Scites (WVU LGBTQ+ Center). Exploring themes from “The Skriker,” the panel will discuss mental and reproductive health. Panelists and other campus resources will be available for further connection at the reception (serving lights snacks and refreshments) after the talk.

The discussion will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 3 p.m. in the CCAC Davis Theatre, followed by a reception (light refreshments will be served) in the CCAC Falbo Theatre. The event is free. Reservations are strongly suggested as seating is limited.

The Skriker

Ancient and damaged, a mythological creature known as Skriker emerges from the underworld in pursuit of two young mothers named Josie and Lily. The Skriker utilizes various disguises to manipulate and ultimately entrap them. Josie goes to the underworld first in what appears to be for a brief period, but the Skriker’s magic twists her understanding and ultimately her fate. Lily follows a similar path but meets an even darker end. Blending ancient folklore and contemporary settings, Churchill's play also draws attention to issues of destruction that plague the environment. 

Inclusivity Statement: The female body is central to this narrative with its portrayals of non-traditional perceptions of motherhood - an important commentary in the on-going Roe v. Wade debate. There are no specific race/ethnicity requirements to bring together this complex thought-provoking play.

2022-2023 Membership is Open!

The Council is currently accepting applications for both full members and affiliate members for 2022-2023. Members meet monthly as a full council in addition to serving on at least one committee.
